Hello everyone! As part of the recent UI changes, we have decided to remove the ability to pay through PayPal. We will continue to support and enhance the payment methods available through Stripe.
How else can I pay?
If you were using card details, then you can still pay by card. This is done through our preferred payment provider, Stripe. Stripe offers the ability for Apple and Google Pay on compatible devices.
Why was it removed?
As a team, we decided to remove the PayPal payment availability from the service.
This is primarily focused around a higher number of fraud and chargeback cases made through PayPal. These are unfortunately difficult to reconcile, making it a rather long process for our team to deal with.
We have also found that it has been rather difficult to manage payments via PayPal too. The ID that is provided to you as a customer is different from the ID that is provided to us as the business, meaning that we have to spend a lot of time hunting down your payment if you were to ever have a billing issue. Since this is such a manual process, as we grow our number of customers, this is likely to get exponentially worse.
More importantly, there are issues that are affecting you as customers. We have received lots of feedback about the fact that PayPal doesn’t support automatic recharging to add credit to your account, meaning that there were various issuses with locked accounts due to the low credit.
We have also noticed that PayPal’s integration into the service has been providing iDeal payment options to customers, and has failed to actually make the payment. PayPal integration indicates that it should have worked, and we have manually tried working on integrating it before, but haven’t had success yet. We will still look at going down this avenue since we are aware that this is one of the preferred payment methods.
For all of the above reasons, we have decided that consolidating into one payment provider will be much easier for us as well as yourselves. This is part of our goal to improve the billing system, making it easier for yourselves and us to provide the same service you love and enjoy.
Whats next?
We are looking into adding support for other payment providers via Stripe. We are aware that there are various other payment services which you would prefer to use for either locality reasons, or just convenience.
